Antano & Harini helping A R Rahman's Sunshine Orchestra

AR Rahman had been funding the Sunshine Orchestra for three years. Violins, cellos, teachers from around the world. The children were underprivileged, musically trained, and going nowhere fast. At the rate they were learning, a performance-ready ensemble was years away. Antano and Harini proposed eight Saturday mornings. Six months later they wrote to Rahman: our work is done. Eight months later, Rahman launched them as the Sunshine Orchestra. Within a year and a half, they performed at the UN alongside Rahman himself. The instruments were there. The teachers were there. The training was there. What was missing was the deep inner conviction that these children from humble backgrounds could actually become world-class musicians. That conviction needed to be installed. Not motivated. Not spoken about. Installed. So it held even when Antano and Harini were not in the room.
